Get started

Three steps, once — then you ask for a page

PageWell has no editor. Set it up in the AI assistant you already use; from then on you ask it for a page and a link comes back.

  1. 01

Set it up in your assistant

Ask your assistant to run this once. It finds every AI assistant on this computer and sets each one up.

    $ npx skills add pagewellai/pagewell -g
sets up every assistant on this machine · versioned · update later: npx skills update pagewell -g -y

If that doesn't work, put it in the folder your assistant reads:

    • Claude Code
      git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/pagewellai/pagewell ~/.claude/skills/pagewell inside a project: .claude/skills/
    • Codex
      git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/pagewellai/pagewell ~/.codex/skills/pagewell inside a project: .agents/skills/
    • Cursor
      git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/pagewellai/pagewell ~/.cursor/skills/pagewell inside a project: .agents/skills/
    • Gemini CLI
      git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/pagewellai/pagewell ~/.gemini/skills/pagewell inside a project: .agents/skills/
    • GitHub Copilot
      git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/pagewellai/pagewell ~/.copilot/skills/pagewell inside a repository: .github/skills/ or .agents/skills/
    • Windsurf
      git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/pagewellai/pagewell ~/.codeium/windsurf/skills/pagewell inside a project: .windsurf/skills/
    • Any other agent
the same clone, into its skills directory most also read .agents/skills/ inside a project

There is nothing else to install: the first time your assistant needs it, it fetches the one small program it needs and checks it before use.

  2. 02

    Ask it for a page

Say what you want in your own words. Three that work:

    • “Write a one-page guide to our new-hire onboarding, with a diagram, and publish it on PageWell.”
    • “Turn these meeting notes into a handbook page and give me a share link that expires in 7 days.”
    • “Make a résumé from the text below — pick a template, check it, then publish.”

It picks a template, writes the draft, checks it against that template's rules, previews it and publishes. By default it comes back as a public, searchable page with its own address and no Space. Ask for a restricted share link or code, or one file that opens anywhere, when that is what you need. Writing, checking and previewing need no account.

Not sure what you'll get back? Two finished examples: a document with everything in it · a page you can play with

  3. 03

    Approve its sign-in once

The first time it publishes, it shows you a short code and the address pagewell.ai/device. Open it in your browser, enter the code, approve — if you have no account yet, it's created right there. Your assistant can never approve this itself. Every assistant you've approved is listed under Agent tokens in your account; disconnect one there and it can't publish any more.

  4. Update

Your assistant keeps itself up to date: when a newer version is out, it tells you and updates on the spot.

Three more doors

Without an assistant: two extensions and the Share page

Not everything starts in an AI assistant. The page on your screen, the file in your editor, or a file on your computer gets a link too.

Chrome extension

Share the page on your screen

Press ⇧⌘UCtrlShiftU on any page — a report a tool made for you, a dashboard, a file on your computer. The page as you see it becomes a link; press again on the same page and the link updates. Open a .md file and it shows as a page. Anonymous links last 24 hours; sign in and pages go to your Documents.

VS Code extension

Share the file you're writing

In VS Code, press ⌥⌘UCtrlAltU and the PageWell side bar opens with the Share button ready. The preview beside your file shows the page exactly as readers will see it, and keeps up as you type. Press again later and the same link updates. Anonymous links last 24 hours; sign in and pages go to your Documents.

Share page

Drop a file, get a link

Any Markdown or HTML file, no account. Live in seconds; the link lasts 24 hours, and replacing the file before then keeps the same link. Up to 1 MB per file, 5 links a day.
